  2.        S.C.I.M. is an inventory management system designed to
  3.        manage and evaluate a sports card collection.  S.C.I.M.
  4.        includes pre-defined card data for baseball, football, and
  5.        basketball - you merely indicate how many copies of each
  6.        card your collection includes.  Or, if you prefer, you can
  7.        create additional, customized sets as needed.  As you add
  8.        cards, S.C.I.M. will enable you to analyze your collection
  9.        with a variety of flexible reports.
  10.  
  11.        S.C.I.M. will run on any IBM PC or 100% compatible using
  12.        DOS version 3.3 or above.  A minimum 640K RAM and a hard
  13.        disk are required.  A 132 column printer is necessary for
  14.        the full range of printed reports.  An 80286 or better
  15.        microprocessor and extended memory are highly recommended.

  17.        In order to use S.C.I.M., you will need (at a minimum) the
  18.        following files:
  19.  
  20.              MAKER.DAT -  Contains data for pre-defined sets
  21.              CUSTOM.DAT - Contains data for custom sets
  22.              CUSTOM.K01 - Contains data for custom sets
  23.              SCIM.CFG - A configuration file
  24.              SCIM.INI - Another configuration file
  25.              SCIM.HLP - A help file
  26.              SCIMHELP.TXT - Contains data for help screens
  27.              SCIM.EXE - The program file
  28.              SCIM.DOC - The User's Guide
  29.              OEDER.FRM - An order form
  30.              ???????.DAT - At least one data file

  32.        These files are contained in two self-extracting archives.
  33.        S.C.I.M. can be installed on any system as outlined below:

  35.          We  will assume that you will use Drive A to install the
  36.          program on Drive C.  If this is not the case,  you  will
  37.          need   to  substitute  the  appropriate  drive  letters.
  38.          First, you will need  to  create  a  directory  for  the
  39.          S.C.I.M. program files.  Type the following, remembering
  40.          to press ENTER after typing each line:

  42.                c:                    <Press ENTER>
  43.                cd \                  <Press ENTER>
  44.                md scim               <Press ENTER>
  45.                cd scim               <Press ENTER>
  46.  
  47.          Now,  place  the  S.C.I.M. program disk into Drive A and
  48.          type:

  50.                a:sc                 <Press ENTER>
  51.  
  52.          Various files will then be loaded onto your disk.  Next,
  53.          you will need to create a  directory  for  the  S.C.I.M.
  54.          data files.  Type the following:
  55.  
  56.                md data               <Press ENTER>
  57.                cd data               <Press ENTER>
  58.  
  59.          Now,  place each of the S.C.I.M. data disks into Drive A
  60.          and type:

  62.                a:data                <Press ENTER>
  63.  
  64.          A number of  S.C.I.M. data files will be copied into the
  65.          data directory.   Please note that it is important,  but
  66.          not absolutely necessary,  that the baseball data  disks
  67.          be installed first and  in the correct order.   If these
  68.          disks are not installed in the proper order,  the result
  69.          will be  that the individual sets will not be printed in
  70.          sequence on multiple set reports.

  72.          After  you have successfully loaded the program and data
  73.          files, you can start S.C.I.M. by typing:

  77.          If  the  program has been properly installed,  the  Main
  78.          Menu screen should appear.
